My Photoshoots by Jessica Mellott

By Jessica Mellott

Hi Everyone!

A lot of people ask me what my photo shoots are like. Though I am not a model (I am only 5′2) I do go on quite a few shoots to get photos to use for my songs, for interviews and at my sites.

Each shoot is different. But once we have decided on an outdoor or an indoor studio shoot, I will spend alot of time deciding what to wear. I rip pictures out of magazines to get ideas. In one magazine, for example, I saw a picture of a beautiful island, I could just imagine myself walking along the beach collecting shells, so that inspired me to try a tropical white outfit with seashell necklaces.

For another shoot I was in a patriotic mood and wore a white skirt and blue top…but I wanted to add some Pizazz to it! So I added a skinny man’s tie that was over 30 years old to give the outfit some modern day punch!

I have my mom take a pic of me in an outfit to make sure it will photograph well. Here is a tester shot….

And one of the actual on location shots (at a guitar shop) in the outfit…..

Shooting days can be loooooooong. My last shoot was about 7 hours straight and the photographer took around 1500 snaps! We rarely stop for breaks and changing can be difficult. At one of my park photo shoots, I changed in a tiny tent! Someone actually crawled in the tent to check it out when I was in a different area of the park!

Each photographer is very special. And I have been so priviledged to work with them.

Some of my favorite photographers:

Lloyd of Lloyd’s photography really captured the color of my eyes.

J.A. Bender of Imagine Studios took one of my most popular pictures of all time!

And Thomas Radley of Thomas Radley Photography captured so many of my moods! Here is a shot he took of me swinging and looking lonely for the not yet released song, “Beautiful Broken”.

Even though I have been photographed by some talented photographers, my fans still love some of the fuzzy pics my mom has taken.

For each shot I think of what I want to project and portray that to the camera. For “Break A Dance” I wanted an energetic feel and my photographer captured that as I danced around the studio. My talented designer friend Michael Van De Velde of Van De Velde Photography turned the photo into a banner.

With so many photos being taken sometimes bloopers happen. I blink, a dog walks by my hair takes over my face….heeheee

Speaking of hair in my face. I sometimes have a makeup and hair stylist on location and sometimes I do it myself. Just depends on the shoot.

I also like to pose with props. I have posed with everything from bubblewrap to balls and bows!

Photo shoots are alot of work but alot of fun for me! I will be updating my sites with new pics and of course new music often. So keep checking my sites!

MUAH!

xoxo,

Jessica ♥
